Cape Symphony Presents Tribute to Movie Music Legend Henry Mancini

CapePOPS! Concert features Mancini’s GRAMMY-nominated daughter Monica

HYANNIS, MA—September 17, 2019

The Cape Symphony will welcome two-time GRAMMY-nominated Monica Mancini, daughter of the legendary film and television composer Henry Mancini who penned favorites like "The Pink Panther" and "Moon River." In a rare and special appearance, Monica Mancini will sing her father’s best-known songs and share stories of old Hollywood for this powerful tribute.

“The success of Henry Mancini is almost unfathomable,” said Cape Symphony Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. “His songs and scores became popular hits in their own right, making him a king among Hollywood composers.”

Mancini received 18 Oscar nominations and won four, had 72 nominations for GRAMMY awards and took home 20, plus was awarded two Emmy Awards and one Golden Globe during his career. Classics like Breakfast at Tiffany’s, The Pink Panther, and Charade came to life thanks to Henry Mancini’s stylish scores and songs. And talent clearly ran in the Mancini family. Monica began singing early on as a member of the Henry Mancini Chorus, which led to a successful career in the Los Angeles studios, where she appeared on countless film scores and recordings with such notable artists as Placido Domingo and Quincy Jones.

“Monica will help us present her father’s major movie hits, including the iconic ‘The Days of Wine and Roses,’ and ‘Moon River,’” said Pak. “What will make this truly special is the family stories Monica will share about growing up in Hollywood, meeting her father’s famous friends and living in the world of movie magic.”

Because of her dad’s career as a composer, Monica Mancini pays special attention to the interpretation of a song. She has said, “I always keep in mind the composer’s intention because I believe melodies and lyrics are crafted with a definite purpose. I want to bring out the beauty of the writer’s word through music.”

Mancini at the Movies will be a special opportunity to see her bring that philosophy to life with her own father’s music. With a voice described as “the glamorous vocal equivalent to diamonds flashing,” by the New York Times, this will be a performance that will surely highlight the unbreakable father-daughter bond.

The Cape Symphony is proud to feature Monica Mancini in Mancini at the Movies on Saturday, October 12 at 3:00 PM and 7:30 PM and Sunday, October 13 at 3:00 PM at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis.
