Popular Ensemble Returns to Barnstable Adult Community Center July 26th through August 30th
HYANNIS, MA—July 20, 2021
The Cape Symphony announces the return of the free Sing for Joy group ensemble, beginning Monday, July 26th. Individuals living with Parkinson's disease are invited to participate in "Sing for Joy," designed to help maintain vocal strength, build community through singing, and experience hope – and joy – through music. Family members, friends, and caregivers are welcome.
Parkinson's disease is a progressive nervous system disorder. Multiple studies have shown the therapeutic benefits of singing programs for Parkinson’s patients, including improvement in vocal strength and quality, respiratory control, and mood.
“Sing for Joy is a highly impactful program and we’re delighted to bring it back,” said Michael Albaugh, Cape Symphony Executive Director. “The healing power of music is well documented, and a group like this provides respite for the soul and engagement for the mind.”
“Sing for Joy” is led by Maggi Bossi, former director of the Chatham Chorale. “Sing for Joy” is funded by a grant from the Parkinson Support Network of Cape Cod/American Parkinson Disease Association. There is no tuition for this program and drop-ins are welcome.
“Sing for Joy” meets at the Barnstable Adult Community Center, 825 Falmouth Rd, Hyannis, MA, July 26th to August 30th from 10:30 AM to 11:30 AM.
