October event features the full-length film with soundtrack performed live
HYANNIS, MA—September 28, 2021
1978’s summer blockbuster Grease, starring John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John, launched some of the most popular songs of all time, including “Summer Nights,” “You're the One That I Want,” “We Go Together,” and more. The original motion picture soundtrack from Grease is one of the best-selling soundtrack albums of all time.
“The music of Grease is iconic!” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor, Cape Symphony. “It’s a fifties throwback with performers like Frankie Valli and Sha-Na-Na and a bit of 1970s with Barry Gibb of the Bee Gees involved as songwriter and singer. Plus, the amazing songs performed by John Travolta, Olivia Newton-John, and Stockard Channing that we all know and love. It’ll be so fun to hear the orchestra performing live to such a beloved movie.”
Guest conductor for Grease: The Film with Live Orchestra Thiago Tiberio is a specialist in musical synchronization to film, having conducted orchestras in scoring sessions and in live-to-picture concert productions, such as "Star Wars Live in Concert" and "The Lord of the Rings Live in Concert." He received an Emmy Award for the “Live from Lincoln Center” special “Danny Elfman’s Music from the Films of Tim Burton.” “I’m so excited to welcome the best of the best when it comes to film conducting, and to share his talent with the audience," said Pak. “Conducting a film score is more difficult than people realize; Thiago is a dynamic young man and he’s truly gifted.”
The October event will be the first time the Cape Symphony has played to a full-length film at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, the entrance and lobby of which will be transformed into Rydell High, featuring classic cars, a Grease photo booth, and a 1950s soundtrack. Audience members are encouraged to come in costume.
