Six December performances include local favorite the Chatham Chorale
HYANNIS, MA—November 10, 2021
The Cape Symphony’s festive annual Holiday on the Cape concerts will start off the season on December 3rd, 4th, and 5th, and will have special meaning this year as Cape Cod returns to celebrating the season in style.
“This year’s Holiday concert feels extra special because we’re so fortunate to be performing joyful music in front of live audiences again,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor, Cape Symphony. “I love kicking off the holiday season with my fellow musicians and our special guests, creating new holiday memories for everyone in the concert hall.”
The orchestra will be joined by two award-winning vocal artists: Cape Cod native and cabaret singer Dawn Derow and jazz singer and saxophonist Danny Bacher. Derow will perform “What Child is This?” and “Christmas on Cape Cod,” among other classics. Bacher will sing “My Favorite Things” from The Sound of Music and put a jazz twist on “Little Drummer Boy.” Together, the two will duet on “White Christmas,” “Winter Wonderland,” and more.
Emmy®-winning author and journalist David Pogue of CBS Sunday Morning and the New York Times will appear in his less well-known roles of musician, conductor, and composer. Pogue graduated from Yale University with distinction in music, and spent ten years conducting and arranging Broadway musicals in New York.
The Cape Symphony also commissioned a new piece of music in celebration of the Festival of Lights, “The Story of Chanukah,” which will be performed by cantorial soloist Samantha Stinson.
2020 marked the 50th anniversary of the Cape’s beloved Chatham Chorale, and the Cape Symphony is pleased to commemorate the anniversary with the frequent “Holiday on the Cape” guests. The Chorale’s Music Director Joseph Marchio will conduct “The First Noel” and “Angels We Have Heard on High.”
Said Pak, “This fun and eclectic mix of music and entertainers promises to be a wonderful holiday celebration. We can’t wait to share it with the community!”
To ensure the health and well-being of its customers, staff, and community, the Cape Symphony has put the following safeguards in place for concerts this fall: all attendees will be required to wear a mask and all attendees are required to provide proof of vaccination at the concert. Cape Symphony staff and musicians have all provided proof of vaccination, and will wear masks at the concert (note that the wind players will not be masked on stage). Visit capesymphony.org/covid-19 for full details on the Cape Symphony’s health and safety policies.
Please note that students ages six to 22 years are eligible for 50% off individual ticket prices to all Cape Symphony concerts.
