Larry Brown’s photographs have appeared in books and magazines. He teaches photography at the Academy for Lifelong Learning at Cape Cod Community College, runs photography seminars at Cape Cod Academy and the Art Center in Barnstable, and has held photography contests at the Hyannis Public Library for middle and high school students. While a teacher at Cape Cod Academy, he took thousands of photographs of concerts, sports, and events, and portraits of teachers and students. His concert photography provided the basis for Cape Cod Times and local radio station coverage. Larry’s favorite photography is portraiture. In 2016, his seminar visited the Noah Shelter, Champ Homes and Homeless not Hopeless to meet residents, hear their stories, and create a portrait gallery. Faces of the Homeless was featured on local websites and television, and at Cape Cinema.
Larry’s classroom teaching career spanned almost 50 years at Tabor Academy, Vermont Academy, and Cape Cod Academy. He is also a longtime columnist for the Cape Cod Times. Larry believes strongly that art and the idealism and open-heartedness of young people can be a powerful catalyst for change.
