Cape Symphony Orchestra Announces Next Steps in Music Director Search

WEST BARNSTABLE, MA—October 10, 2023

The Cape Symphony Orchestra is excited to share the latest developments in the search process for its next Music Director. With a strong and enthusiastic community behind them, the orchestra is forging ahead in its pursuit of musical excellence.

Anthony Panebianco, Chair of the Cape Symphony Board of Trustees, expressed his gratitude, stating, "We are deeply appreciative of the overwhelming support shown by our dedicated community throughout this important endeavor. Your commitment to the Cape Symphony is truly inspiring."

The application window for the Music Director position officially closed on September 30. Cape Symphony has received an impressive array of applications from exceptionally talented individuals. Mike Albaugh, Executive Director of the Cape Symphony, noted, "We are thrilled with the level of interest and the caliber of candidates who have applied. It is a testament to the reputation and appeal of the Cape Symphony."

The Music Director Search Committee, consisting of Cape Symphony Orchestra musicians, board members, staff leaders, and a community representative, is now entering the next phase of the selection process. Robert Hoveland, Principal Trombone of the CSO, shared, "We have a diverse committee that is committed to a meticulous and inclusive process. We are excited about the exceptional talent we have the privilege of considering for this vital role in our orchestra."

In the upcoming weeks, the committee will carefully review each application and select three to five candidates to be invited to program and conduct orchestra concerts in the next season.
These candidates will each spend a week on the Cape, immersing themselves in the community and the Cape Symphony Orchestra.

During their visits, candidates will engage in a series of events to introduce them to the community, including Q&A sessions, open rehearsals, talkbacks, and media interviews. Anthony Panebianco added, "We encourage all members of our community to join us during these events to meet the candidates and share their thoughts and questions. Your input is invaluable."

The Cape Symphony Orchestra is committed to a transparent process, and the community's involvement is essential. Stay tuned for further updates on the candidate selection and visitation schedule as the orchestra moves forward in its search for the perfect leader to inspire and elevate its musical journey.
