The Romantics takes the Cape Symphony audience to the 19th century revolution
HYANNIS, MA—January 4, 2023
Cape Cod may be cold in January, but the Cape Symphony’s Masterpiece concert on January 21 and 22, 2023 will heat things up with rock star classical composers Johannes Brahms, Franz Liszt, Richard Wagner, and Robert Schumann, who revolutionized the art of live performance, seducing audiences with their unbridled talent and charisma.
“During the Romantic period, composers became superstars,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor. “These four giants of the era were more daring and emotional in their work than anyone before them.”
The Cape Symphony will be joined by award-winning pianist Maxim Lando, who is still a teenager but has already made his sold-out debuts at Carnegie Hall, Alice Tully Hall, and the Kennedy Center. In October 2022, Lando was awarded First Prize at the prestigious New York Liszt International Piano Competition. Lando will perform Liszt’s most famous Piano Concerto, No. 1. The Hungarian composer and performer curated his magnetic star image for the stage and lived an extravagant life.
“Maxim Lando is the perfect choice to step into Liszt’s shoes for this performance,” said Pak. “He’s a charismatic pianist who performs with what the New York Times called ‘a wild-eyed danger.’ I can’t wait to showcase his talent for our audiences.”
The Cape Symphony French horns will be featured in Robert Schumann’s Konzertstück (Concert Piece), a vibrant, high energy concerto. Johannes Brahms’s tuneful, optimistic Academic Festival Overture uses university student songs to create a humorous yet complex and colorful work. The towering Richard Wagner’s Prelude to Die Meistersinger (The Master Singers) includes highlights of the great arias from the opera.
Please note that students ages six to 22 years are eligible for 50% off individual ticket prices to all Cape Symphony concerts.
The Cape Symphony is proud to present The Romantics on Saturday, January 21 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, January 22, 2023 at 3:00 PM at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis MA 02601. To purchase tickets, visit capesymphony.org, call the Box Office at 508-362-1111, email
