The Cape Symphony Presents “Respect: A Tribute to Aretha Franklin”

Inspiring musical biography of the legendary “Queen of Soul” features her greatest hits

HYANNIS, MA—April 5, 2023

The Barnstable Performing Arts Center will be filled with some of the 20th century’s greatest songs on April 22 and 23, 2023 as the Cape Symphony pays tribute to Aretha Franklin. Joined by three talented vocalists and led by Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak, the orchestra will perform the music of this iconic force, including “(You Make Me Feel Like A) Natural Woman” and “Chain of Fools.”

“Aretha Franklin was of course a true legend, and her songs are not just memorable but also timeless, crossing over from gospel and soul to R&B and rock and roll,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor, Cape Symphony. “With amazing singers to bring her hits from across the decades to life, this will be an extraordinarily fun show!”

The musicians of the orchestra will be joined on stage by Corwyn Hodge, who has appeared in The Lion King, Jesus Christ Superstar, and Grease and has performed with Tony Bennett, Prince, Bruno Mars and Justin Timberlake; Shaleah Adkisson, who has been seen on Broadway and on tour in Hair: The American Tribal Love-Rock Musical and off-Broadway in the revival of the Pulitzer Prize-winning musical Rent; and Tamika Lawrence, a two-time Grammy-winning artist who was Drama Desk Award-nominated for her appearance in the recent Broadway revival of Caroline, Or Change. Together and as soloists, the three talented performers pay tribute to one of music’s greatest of all time.

The program includes such memorable Aretha Franklin hits as “Amazing Grace,” “I Never Loved a Man,” “Baby I Love You,” and “Think.” Aretha Franklin was named to the top 10 greatest artists of all time by Rolling Stone, and had 20 number one R&B singles, winning 18 Grammy Awards. She was also the first woman to be inducted in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame.

Please note that students ages six to 22 years are eligible for 50% off individual ticket prices to all Cape Symphony concerts.
