Step into a world of toe-tapping rhythms as Byron Stripling returns to the Cape Symphony stage to take you on a high-spirited journey through these iconic American genres in signature style, with plenty of entertaining and humorous vignettes along the way. The program showcases ragtime master Scott Joplin, blues legend Muddy Waters, and more, with a rousing finale you won’t soon forget. Byron is joined by Bobby Floyd of the Ray Charles, Dr. John, and Count Basie Bands.
Byron Stripling, Conductor, Trumpet
Byron Stripling is Principal Pops conductor of the Milwaukee and Pittsburg Symphony Orchestras and Artistic Director and Conductor of the Columbus Jazz Orchestra. He’s led countless orchestras throughout the United States and Canada including the Boston Symphony Orchestra at Tanglewood and the orchestras of San Diego, St. Louis, Virginia, Toronto, Baltimore, Milwaukee, Fort Worth, Rochester, Buffalo, Florida, Portland and Sarasota.
Stripling delights audiences with his contagious smile and captivating charm. A worldwide pops orchestra and jazz festival favorite since his Carnegie Hall debut with Skitch Henderson and the New York Pops, he has soloed with over 100 orchestras including the Boston Pops, the National Symphony, the Baltimore, Pittsburgh, Dallas, Seattle, St. Louis, Vancouver, and Toronto Symphonies, the Cincinnati Pops, and the Minnesota Orchestra. As a soloist with the Boston Pops, Stripling performs frequently under the baton of Keith Lockhart. He was the featured soloist on the PBS special "Evening at Pops" with conductors John Williams and Mr. Lockhart.
Stripling was educated at the Eastman School of Music and the Interlochen Arts Academy. He lives in Ohio with his wife and daughters.

Bobby Floyd has toured and performed extensively with Ray Charles, Rusty Bryant, Jeff Tyzik, Chris Howes, Byron Stripling, Sarah Morrow, and his own trio. He performs as a featured soloist with orchestras throughout the USA and Canada, including the Rochester Philharmonic, the Vancouver, Columbus, Edmonton, and Detroit Symphonies, ProMusica Chamber Orchestra, and many others. Floyd is also a frequent soloist with the Columbus Jazz Orchestra, where his soulful sound has backed artists including Chuck Mangione, Houston Person, Branford Marsalis, Roy Hargrove, Mavis Staples, Gerald Wilson, Wycliffe Gordon, John Clayton, and countless others. Recent performances in Europe and Japan have garnered high praise and he continues to accompany the top jazz, blues and gospel artist in the country.
Floyd has taught at The Ohio State University, his own private studio, and the world-famous Jamey Aebersold Jazz Workshops. His CDs Interpretations, Setting the Standards, Floyd’s Finest Gift, and Notes to and from My Friends are acclaimed by critics and musicians alike.
