Cape Symphony Presents: Cosmos Sessions Chamber Music Festival

Cape Symphony Presents: Cosmos Sessions Chamber Music Festival

Chamber music lovers are in for a special treat at Cape Symphony’s Falmouth campus on June 20 and 22, 2024 (and if you’re new to this classical form, this is a great opportunity to check it out). Cape Symphony Concertmaster and audience favorite Jae Cosmos Lee has curated two programs of extraordinary music for strings, clarinet, and piano that will ignite your senses and make your heart skip a beat.

Striking a balance between the enormity and grandeur of a full orchestral concert and the individual focus of solo performance, chamber music has been described as “a conversation between friends.” From the musicians’ perspective, it is a uniquely cooperative, challenging and rewarding undertaking; for the audience, it is a true pleasure to experience orchestral instruments more closely. Intimate duets, trios, and quartets feel larger than life, with an immediacy like no other form.

The repertoire for the Cosmos Sessions Chamber Music Festival is an exciting, diverse selection of works spanning the 19th to 21st centuries. Each evening has its own compelling, meticulously curated program.

On Thursday, June 20:

Bohuslav Martinů: 3 Madrigals for Violin & Viola (1947)
Quinn Mason: The 19th Amendment, ballet for Clarinet, Violin & Piano (2019)

Rebecca Clarke: Two Pieces for Viola & Cello (c. 1916)
Caroline Shaw: Limestone & Felt for Viola & Cello (2012)
Johannes Brahms: Clarinet Trio in A minor, op.114 (1891)

On Saturday, June 22:

Zoltán Kodály: Duo, op.7 for Violin & Cello (1914)
Krzysztof Penderecki: Clarinet Quartet (1993)
