Excitement Building for Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert

The Cape Symphony Orchestra will engage the hyperdrive again this summer for the second film in the original Star Wars trilogy. Don't miss Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back In Concert on July 27 & 28 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center!

Last summer’s Star Wars: A New Hope In Concert was a sold-out sensation, and now we’re thrilled to perform John Williams’ Grammy® award-winning music for The Empire Strikes Back, live along with the film.

Williams’s Oscar®-nominated score for The Empire Strikes Back reprises and develops themes from A New Hope, and introduces new ones as the story advances. Listen for a gentle theme specific to Jedi Master Yoda, in harmony with the Force itself; for stirring music surrounding the tempestuous feelings growing between Han Solo and Princess Leia; and, of course, for the brutal, menacing Imperial March, which dominates the score as Darth Vader turns the fury of the Galactic Empire on our Rebel friends.

Galvanizing music and unifying themes made the Star Wars trilogy one of the most musically compelling franchises in history, and marked a new era in film scoring. Today, the movie-concert experience is a true joy for fans of all ages. Many of us who were kids when the Star Wars films first rocked our worlds have shared that love and excitement with our own children, and of course the prequels, sequels, and spin-offs have expanded the Star Wars universe and fandom beyond measure.

“I remember standing on line with my brother to see Empire when it came out in 1980,” says one happy ticketholder. Those were the early days of huge screen, multiplex theaters, and the sounds and visual effects of the Star Wars films were completely unprecedented. “’A New Hope’ had totally blown us away in 1977. We couldn’t wait for ‘The Empire Strikes Back,’ and if anything, it was even better.”

What fans love about Star Wars could fill many books, and has. But the joy, goose bumps, and total exhilaration of the big-screen experience all begin and end with John Williams’s incredible music. To hear it performed by a live orchestra along with the film, from the title crawl to the end credits, is terrifically exciting.

Join us to experience it for yourself.
