2017 Holiday on the Cape Concert

“Flutist Sheets Plays with Elegance, Force” at Nth Degree Concert

Last Sunday’s sold-out Nth Degree concert was outstanding, according to Cape Cod Times reviewer Keith Powers in his article “Flutist Sheets Plays with Elegance, Force.”

“Fickle Flute” was led by Zach Sheets, Cape Symphony’s principal flutist. Zach enjoys a diverse life as a chamber musician, composer, and orchestral flutist. Zach is the 1st-prize winner of the 2017 Byron Hester Flute Competition, the 2016 Lorraine Vaillancourt Prize, and the 2015 Tallon Perkes Flute Competition. He performed wonderfully with Wei-Han Wu, probably because they play together as Duo Axis, presenting recitals and commissioning and premiering major new works for flute and piano. They astounded the crowd during the Bach Flute Sonata, the Sonatine by Sancan, and Prokofiev’s Sonata in D major, and were joined by our virtuosic Cape Symphony Concertmaster Jae Cosmos Lee on violin for the Sonata for Flute, Violin and Piano by Martinu.

Jae also directs the Nth Degree series, and the next performance, Cellisimo, is March 11 at 3:00 PM in the Federated Church in Orleans, featuring music by Bruch, Beethoven and Brahms.
