Introducing Guest Conductor Farkhad Khudyev

Cape Symphony is delighted to introduce our audience to Farkhad Khudyev, who will conduct our first concert of the season, Fanfare: A Celebration of Unity. “Fanfare” features magnificent pieces by Aaron Copland, Jean Sibelius, and Ludwig van Beethoven. Mr. Khudyev is thrilled about each one, and feels a strong personal connection to the themes of freedom and unity that the program embraces.

A graduate of Oberlin Conservatory and Yale University, Mr. Khudyev is Music Director for the Symphony Orchestra at the University of Texas at Austin’s Butler School of Music, and for the Orchestral Institute at the Hidden Valley Institute of the Arts in Carmel, California.

The themes of freedom and unity that form the backbone of “Fanfare” resonate deeply with Farkhad, making him an ideal choice to conduct this powerful music. “This is a fascinating program,” he said. “Every time I open the score, joy comes to me. It speaks of freedom, and a celebration of unity and connection. Embracing freedom makes us all united.”

“Celebrating unity is personally very meaningful to me,” he continued. “I know many people of different cultures from all over the world, playing music and living together, sharing different cultures and backgrounds. I’m so thankful to have that in my life.”

Asked what he would like his Cape Cod audience to take away from “Fanfare: A Celebration of Unity,” Farkhad said: “I’d like them to delve into the diversity of freedom, and the diversity of unity. Think about how freedom and unity are interpreted by different souls, geniuses, composers. See it from different angles, with different colors and palettes. Copland, Sebelius, and Beethoven address these themes in such different ways… I’d like the audience to connect these themes with what they see every day.”

“Cape Cod is a bridge to the freedom of the ocean,” he said. “You have a special sense of freedom here, because of that connection.” We invite you to share that joy and connection with us!
