Cape Symphony Orchestra to Perform "Beethoven: The Revolutionary"

The Cape Symphony Orchestra will present “Beethoven: The Revolutionary” on April 5 & 6 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center. This all-Beethoven program features Leonore Overture No. 3, Violin Concerto, and Symphony No. 5. Violinist Alexi Kenney will be the guest soloist.

This season’s Masterpiece performances are each led by a candidate for the Music Director position at Cape Symphony. The repertoire features warhorses from the Western canon chosen to showcase the talent and skill of these fine conductors.

Dina Gilbert, acclaimed for her energy, precision, and versatility, has conducted leading Canadian orchestras such as Orchestre symphonique de Montréal, the Orchestra métropolitain, the Toronto Symphony Orchestra, the Hamilton Philharmonic, and the Orchestre symphonique de Québec. She is frequently invited to conduct in Europe and the United States. Dr. Gilbert currently serves as Principal Conductor of the Grands Ballets Canadiens de Montréal, Music Director and Conductor of the Walla Walla Symphony, and Music Director of the Kamloops Symphony. She is known for her commitment to communicating with audiences of all ages, broadening their appreciation of orchestral music in innovative ways.

Violinist Alexi Kenney will join the Cape Symphony Orchestra to perform Beethoven’s Violin Concerto. Mr. Kenney has earned high praise for solo performances with major orchestras around the world. He is the recipient of an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Borletti-Buitoni Trust Award. This concert season, he has played concertos by Bartók, Beethoven, and Stravinsky with the San Diego Symphony, Florida Orchestra, and Reno Philharmonic, and performed a soloist with the Dallas, Pittsburgh, and Milwaukee Symphonies, among others.

Cape Symphony welcomes audience involvement in its Music Director search. The public may observe Dina Gilbert in rehearsal with the Orchestra from 6:30 – 8:30 PM on Thursday, April 3, 2025 at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center. “Beethoven: The Revolutionary” ticketholders are invited to get to know her at a Q&A session led by Assistant Conductor Joe Marchio beginning one hour before each performance. Those who attend the open rehearsal and/or the concert will be encouraged to convey their thoughts through a survey to be emailed the following week.
