First concert since February 2020 features the American music of Aaron Copland
HYANNIS, MA—November 18, 2020
The Cape Symphony is pleased to announce a free livestreamed concert, “Simple Gifts,” on Saturday, December 12th at 3:00 PM. The talented musicians of the Cape Symphony, led by Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak, will perform Aaron Copland’s well-known “Suite from Appalachian Spring,” including the famous piece “Simple Gifts.” The concert will be live-streamed on the Music Performance Trust Fund Facebook page at www.facebook.com/MusicPerformanceTrustFund/.
“Due to the pandemic, we have been unable to perform since February, and our entire organization has been eager to perform again under the direction of Jung-Ho,” said Michael Albaugh, Executive Director, Cape Symphony. “This free concert is our holiday gift to our wonderful Cape Cod community with gratitude for their support and loyalty.”
“This performance of Aaron Copland’s popular ‘Suite from Appalachian Spring’ is the perfect gift for Cape Symphony fans,” said Pak. “Copland was one of our country’s finest composers, and his use of the Shaker song ‘Simple Gifts,’ a celebration of the simple joys found in daily life, became an American classic.”
Pak continued, “The Cape Symphony musicians and I look forward to sharing the gift of this music with everyone.”
The concert will be livestreamed from the main stage at the Cotuit Center for the Arts. The 13-instrument orchestration enables social distance and all appropriate safety protocols will be observed. “Simple Gifts” is made possible by the Music Performance Trust Fund.
“Many thanks to the Music Performance Trust Fund for their support, without which we would not be able to present this special event,” added Albaugh. “We’re also grateful to the Cotuit Center for the Arts, and would like to thank David Kuehn, CCFTA Executive Director, and his team for the use of their main stage and their technological assistance.”
