Cape Symphony Extends Contract for Renowned Conductor Jung-Ho Pak

Five-year commitment to the Cape community includes focus on a strong return to the concert stage

HYANNIS, MA—February 17, 2021

The Cape Symphony is pleased to announce that it has reached an agreement with Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak to extend his contract for five years. Pak joined the Cape Symphony in 2007 and has led the orchestra to new heights in high-quality entertainment experiences.

“We are delighted to share this welcome news with the community,” said Ellen A. Dickinson, Board Chair. “Jung-Ho’s unquestioned leadership and dedication to this organization will help us achieve our long-term goals and elevate our mission to ‘Inspire Joy.’”

During Pak’s tenure, the Cape Symphony transformed the concert experience into an event meant for everyone, especially for those attending for the first time. By presenting intriguing themes and extraordinary artists from around the world, the Masterpiece events became something far from the traditional classical concert. The Cape Symphony has also added many talented musicians to its roster, showcasing their gifts, and built partnerships with businesses, non-profits, and arts organizations across the Cape and Islands. The Cape Symphony has also created a New Year’s Day Party that is now an annual tradition, and added more performances to the popular CapePOPS! Series, including the growth of the enormously successful "Holiday on the Cape" into a six-performance long weekend event.

Pak is a gifted educator and his commitment to youth education on the Cape is carried out through programs like the Young People’s Concert, Carnegie Hall’s Link Up, and Virtuoso Visits, in which he frequently visits Cape schools to work with both ensembles and conductors. Students around the region have opportunities to participate in events with the Cape Symphony under Jung-Ho’s leadership, and teachers have the chance to coordinate curriculum with these activities.

“I’ve known Jung-Ho for many years, beginning with our time at the Interlochen Center for the Arts. Our long-term relationship has helped as we work through these challenging times and plan for a bright future for the Cape Symphony, on the stage, in classrooms, and out in the community,” said Michael Albaugh, Executive Director. “Jung-Ho’s new contract represents our shared commitment to that future, and I look forward to accomplishing great things together.”

“It’s been an honor to take this 15-year journey with the Cape Symphony and our community. I have sought to present the most innovative and emotional performances possible, and we have enjoyed unprecedented growth and extraordinary customer loyalty,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor. “Michael and I have an ambitious vision for the future, and I anticipate our return to the stage with excitement because it will mark the beginning of the greatest chapter for the Cape Symphony yet.”
