CapePOPS! event features stars of “Hamilton” and the Glenn Miller Orchestra
HYANNIS, MA—February 2, 2022
The Cape Symphony is thrilled to present the star of the touring company of Hamilton: An American Musical, Julius Thomas III, partnered with the lead singer of the Glenn Miller Orchestra, Mark Kopitzke. Together, they’ll perform an unforgettable show of swing and Motown hits, The Kings of Soul & Swing, with the Cape Symphony on February 26 and 27, 2022.
Thomas has appeared across the country as Alexander Hamilton, as Berry Gordy in the box-office hit, Motown: The Musical, and as part of the original Broadway cast of the Tony-nominated The Scottsboro Boys. Kopitzke traveled the world for nine years with the Glenn Miller Orchestra, performs at Disneyland with the band Phat Cat Swinger, and released his debut solo album, How To Wear A Bow Tie, in 2015.
“When I found out about these two, I knew immediately that our Cape Symphony audience would love them,” said Jung-Ho Pak, Artistic Director & Conductor, Cape Symphony. “They instinctively understand how to perform the great songs of the ‘40s through the ‘70s, making the American songbook come alive with their incredible energy and charisma.”
The Kings of Soul & Swing will include “Moonlight Serenade,” Stevie Wonder’s “Sir Duke,” “It Don’t Mean a Thing,” “It’s Not Unusual,” and a Jackson 5 medley. Pak says, “This mix of crooning classics, upbeat R&B, and swinging hits will have our fans swooning and tapping their feet!”
To ensure the health and well-being of its customers, staff, and community, the Cape Symphony has put the following safeguards in place for all concerts: all attendees will be required to wear a mask and all attendees are required to provide proof of vaccination at the concert. Children ages six and up are welcome to attend but they must follow the health and safety policies. If the child is not fully vaccinated, they must have a negative test result. COVID-19 tests must be administered by a third party. Self-administered tests (like an at-home kit from a drugstore) will not be accepted. All Cape Symphony staff and musicians have provided proof of vaccination, and will wear masks at the concert (note that the wind players will not be masked on stage). Visit capesymphony.org/covid-19 for full details on the Cape Symphony’s health and safety policies.
