Free admission will expand cultural access to low-income families
HYANNIS, MA—September 19, 2017
The Cape Symphony joins over 100 other nonprofit arts, history and science venues across the state in providing free or discounted admission to low-income families through the newly announced EBT Card to Culture program.
The program, a collaboration between the Mass Cultural Council and the Executive Office of Health and Human Services’ Department of Transitional Assistance (DTA), is the most comprehensive effort of its kind in the nation to open doors to arts and cultural experience for low-income families.
“We’ve always believed that the arts are a vital element to a well-rounded, enriched life, and this program falls right into that belief, supporting our mission of inspiring joy through the arts. We’re happy to extend this opportunity to individuals and families that may otherwise not be able to experience a Cape Symphony performance,” said Cape Symphony Chief Operating Officer Linda Mawhinney.
The Cape Symphony is offering free tickets for every Cape Symphony concert in the 2017|18 season, subject to availability, for the EBT Card to Culture program, effective immediately. A valid Massachusetts EBT card must be presented to receive free ticket(s).Tickets must be obtained by either visiting the Cape Symphony Box Office at 1060 Falmouth Road in Hyannis, Monday – Friday from 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM; on the concert date by visiting the Box Office at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis, open beginning two hours prior to every performance; or by calling the Box Office at 508-362-1111.
“Learning does not take place in the classroom alone,” said DTA Commissioner Jeff McCue in a recent press release launching the program. “The Commonwealth is rich with incredible cultural institutions that provide essential educational opportunities and I am thrilled so many organizations have stepped up to provide greater access for DTA clients.”
