Fun-Filled Pops Variety Show for Music Fans of All Ages on Friday, August 26
HYANNIS, MA—August 2, 2022
The Cape Cod National Seashore’s outdoor amphitheater at Salt Pond makes a beautiful setting for a summer concert from the Cape Symphony! The fifth annual Symphony at the Seashore is Friday, August 26, 2022 at 7:00 PM. Pre-concert activities for kids and parents will be offered from 6:00 PM to 6:45 PM. Admission is free.
The event, presented by the National Park Service and the Cape Symphony and sponsored by the Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore and the Music Performance Trust Fund, features a Disney medley, pieces by Antonio Vivaldi and Aaron Copland, a special multimedia tribute to the National Parks and the Cape Cod National Seashore in particular, and stirring patriotic numbers, including a tribute to our armed forces and veterans.
“We love performing at the Cape Cod National Seashore; I can’t imagine a more beautiful place for the musicians and the audience!” said Jung-Ho Pak, Cape Symphony Artistic Director & Conductor. “I’m especially pleased that this event is free to all so that we can welcome everyone from the community.”
Eastham native Dawn Derow will join the Cape Symphony as the special guest. Dawn is a vocal performance graduate of the Boston Conservatory and is an award-winning cabaret singer in New York City who has performed in prestigious venues such as Carnegie Hall and Birdland.
“We’re bringing Dawn to the Seashore after the audience acclaim for her performance at Holiday on the Cape in 2021,” said Pak. “Her style is perfect for the nostalgic tunes we have planned.” Dawn will perform “Old Cape Cod,” as made famous by Patti Page, “(I Like New York in June) How About You?” and “Skylark,” among other favorites.
The Cape Symphony will also perform “Wampanoag: Stories for All Time” by Native composer Tonya Wind Singer, a piece that immerses listeners in the sounds of traditional Wampanoag rhythms. Mark Faherty, Science Coordinator at Mass Audubon’s Wellfleet Bay Wildlife Sanctuary and writer of the Weekly Bird Report on CAI, will join Jung-Ho Pak on stage to talk about the relationship between bird songs and music.
This concert is made possible by major financial support from Friends of the Cape Cod National Seashore, philanthropic partner to the National Seashore since 1987. The instrumental music for this occasion is made possible in part by funds supplied by the Recording Companies of the United States and Canada through the Music Performance Trust Fund, a public service organization created under agreements with the American Federation of Musicians. The grant for this performance was obtained with the cooperation of AFM Local No. 9-535.
