Performance also includes local favorites the Chatham Chorale and a holiday toy drive for local military families
HYANNIS, MA—November 12, 2019
Each year, the Cape Symphony kicks off the holiday season with Holiday on the Cape – a festive concert of favorite holiday music, starring local performers in a variety show-style celebration.
This year, the Cape Symphony will give a nod to the popular Bob Hope holiday TV and radio specials, recreating the magic with help from Cape vocalists Jessica Curran, Jenn Dashnaw and Anna McEntee as the Andrews Sisters, and Boston-based John Stevens as Bing Crosby.
“Bob Hope’s Christmas shows for troops overseas meant so much to so many people – the Armed Forces he entertained as well as the people watching at home,” said Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. “We hope this year’s Holiday concert represents that spirit – warm and inviting with some light-hearted fun mixed in.”
The Cape Symphony will also remember the troops serving overseas in the second half of the concert, called “Christmas Away from Home.” Filled with traditional hymns and carols, this memorable holiday celebration will put the audience in the mood for the season.
Holiday Toy Drive: Help Bring Holiday Cheer to the Cape’s Military Families
For military families, the holidays often mean one or more parent is away from home on duty or deployed. So in addition to a touching tribute to the heroes and their families, the Cape Symphony will also be collecting new, unwrapped toys or gift cards to support the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation.
“We host a holiday party where between 800-900 children receive toys, can choose gifts for their parents, enjoy pony rides, a petting zoo, and food and pictures with Santa,” said Don Cox, President and Founder of the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation.
“Operation Santa Claus” is a movement started by the Cape Cod Military Support Foundation several years ago to assist military families with holiday preparations. For all six Holiday on the Cape performances, military personnel will collect new toys, gift cards and cash or credit card donations that will be distributed to military families across the Cape and Islands.
The Cape Symphony is proud to present its annual Holiday on the Cape on Friday, December 6 (4:00 PM & 8:00 PM), Saturday, December 7 (3:00 PM & 7:30 PM) and Sunday, December 8 (1:00 PM & 5:00 PM).
