Cape Symphony Travels to Scandinavia in its latest “Passport” Series Concert

Norwegian Pianist and Former Cape Symphony Principal Cellist Headline Performance

HYANNIS, MA—October 20, 2017

Travel to the lush lands of Scandinavia as the Cape Symphony highlights the most famous composers hailing from Northern Europe, paired with two Scandinavian guest artists in Passport to Scandinavia, Saturday, November 4 and Sunday, November 5.

The journey begins with Norwegian pianist Knut Erik Jensen, who will perform Norwegian composer Edvard Grieg’s Concerto for Piano.

“Bringing this outstanding young Norwegian pianist to Cape Cod to play the work of the most famous Norwegian composer is an example of how far we go to create an extraordinary experience for the audience,” said Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak.

Also featured in the Passport to Scandinavia concert is longtime Principal Cellist of the Cape Symphony, Bo Ericsson, performing Swede Lars-Erik Larsson’s “Concertino for Cello and String Orchestra.”

“When I was interviewing for this job over a decade ago, Bo, a native of Sweden, asked if I would be willing to present any Swedish composers. I promised that I would, and I’m finally fulfilling that promise,” said Pak.

“Bo retired from the orchestra in May, and I am very pleased to have him returning to the Cape Symphony stage for what will likely be an emotional moment for him and his colleagues, as many of them have been performing together for almost twenty years,” added Pak.

In addition to Norway and Sweden, Passport to Scandinavia will also include a visit to Denmark with the first Cape Symphony performance of “Helios Overture,” written in 1902 by Denmark’s most famous composer, Carl Neilsen. This gorgeous orchestral showpiece evokes the sun rising and traveling across the sky, setting softly into darkness.

Finishing up the concert will be a visit to Finland for a piece that is treated like a national anthem for the country. “Finlandia” is a tone poem by Jean Sibelius with a glorious heroic finish.

The Cape Symphony is proud to feature pianist Knut Erik Jensen and cellist Bo Ericsson in Passport to Scandinavia on Saturday, November 4 & Sunday, November 5. For more information or to purchase tickets visit capesymphony.org or call 508-362-1111.
