Community leaders bring passion and skills to non-profit board
HYANNIS, MA—July 26, 2022
The Cape Symphony has named six new members to the Board of Trustees for the 2022/23 year.
Anthony Panebianco of Yarmouth Port is now Board Chair. Dennis resident Jayne Mullen-Sampson serves as Vice Chair. Steven Heslinga of Centerville remains the Treasurer, and Theresa Egan of Cotuit is Secretary of the 25-member board.
The new members of the Cape Symphony Board are:
Sherley-Ann Belleus, South Dennis
Sherley-Ann grew up on Cape Cod, where her involvement in Cape Symphony programs as a child and teen helped to nurture and nourish her passion for music. Sherley pursued music at Ithaca College, attaining a music education degree, and then at the University of Southern California, where she earned a master's in vocal performance. A strong advocate for education at all levels, Sherley has found joy and fulfillment in her roles as a teacher and singer in her hometown and church.
Maria Campbell, Carver
Maria worked for a private, non-profit human service agency, Community Systems, Inc., for 31 years, the last four years as the Executive Director. Today, she works for Old Colony Hospice as a chaplain. Maria enjoys several volunteer roles within her parish community, many involving community outreach. Maria is a graduate of The University of Massachusetts Boston (B.A. in English) and Curry College (Master of Education).
Amanda Davis, Chatham
Amanda, a graduate of Ohio Wesleyan University, spent her business career in marketing, advertising and publishing. A Greenwich, CT native, Amanda has been actively involved as a volunteer in non-profits for over 35 years, serving as Chair of the Board of the Greenwich Chapter of the American Red Cross, among many other roles. Amanda is on the Board of Trustees of the Chatham Historical Society, and a member of the Chatham Garden Club, the Women’s Club, and the League Club of Cape Cod.
Arthur Massaro, Cotuit
Arthur recently retired from the general contracting construction company he founded more than 40 years ago in Charlestown, MA, turning the reins over to his daughter. A graduate of Boston University, he has been a board member of the North Bennet Street School, a post-graduate vocational school in Boston's North End, as a carpentry advisor for over 30 years. Arthur spent a year in Florence, Italy with his wife and two children and has returned many times, practicing his Italian language skills.
Nancy Strickland, West Falmouth
Upon college graduation, Nancy was a reading specialist and then a head teacher in a preschool. Mid-career, she went to seminary. Ordained in the United Church of Christ, Nancy has served churches in Massachusetts and Connecticut. Nancy recently retired as chair of the Committee on Ministry of the Barnstable Association of the Southern New England UCC. Nancy has a passion for music and recognizes the healing and unifying elements it holds, and is a proponent of accessibility to the arts for people of all ages and abilities.
Jean Sutherland, Falmouth
Jean is a Massachusetts native and a graduate of Boston College with a B.S. and M.S. in nursing. She also has an advanced degree in family practice nursing from Northeastern University. Jean created a health, safety and wellness consulting company, helping companies to lower healthcare costs and achieve optimal safety. After selling her business, Jean joined Acushnet Company as a Senior Executive. Jean has served on numerous boards including The Women’s Center in New Bedford and Highfield Hall and Gardens in Falmouth.

The Cape Symphony thanks outgoing member and former executive director Bob Summersgill for his longtime service and dedication to the organization.

The Cape Symphony Board of Trustees contributes to the good health of the organization via policy setting, fundraising, strategic planning, and financial management. Board members are active advocates for the Cape Symphony in the community, helping to bring awareness to the organization’s mission of “Inspiring Joy.”
