Twin Sisters Play Dual Pianos in Cape Symphony’s “Perfectly Paired”

Award-winning Juilliard graduates perform light-hearted “Concerto for Two Pianos” by Francis Poulenc

HYANNIS, MA—March 10, 2020

The connectivity of twins is fascinating, but nothing is more astounding than watching twin sisters Christina and Michelle Naughton perform on dual pianos with impeccable synchronicity.

The Cape Symphony’s Perfectly Paired concert on Saturday, April 4 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, April 5 at 3 PM will feature these two Juilliard graduates in a delightful musical dialogue as they perform French composer Francis Poulenc’s “Concerto for Two Pianos.”

“The virtuosity and skill of these two young women is incredible all on its own, but the mastery they’ve developed at performing together is like nothing I’ve seen before,” said Artistic Director & Conductor Jung-Ho Pak. “The combination of the Naughtons’ connection at the piano paired with Poulenc’s light-hearted, almost conversational, concerto will make people attend on Saturday want to come back again on Sunday.”

Born in New Jersey, Christina and Michelle are both Steinway Artists currently living in New York City. In March 2019, the twins were awarded the Avery Fisher Career Grant presented by Lincoln Center, designed to give professional assistance and recognition to talented instrumentalists believed to have great potential for major careers. They’ve dazzled audiences at some of the world’s greatest concert halls including Lincoln Center, The Royal Concertgebouw in Amsterdam, Walt Disney Hall, and the Kennedy Center in Washington D.C., and released their own album Visions in February 2016.

In addition to the concerto, the orchestra will perform Bela Bartok’s “Concerto for Orchestra,” which features the famous “Game of Pairs” movement. Bartok incorporated eastern European folk music into this intensely dramatic piece. It features pairs of bassoons, oboes, clarinets, flutes and trumpets, each pair performing its own solo.

“I can’t wait for us to perform this concerto. It is an extremely challenging piece and really showcases the talent and skill of our own musicians,” said Pak. “The orchestra will be huge, and their musical communication skills will certainly be crucial in pulling off this piece. It is definitely one not to be missed!”

The Cape Symphony is proud to feature Christina and Michelle Naughton in Perfectly Paired on Saturday, April. 4 at 7:30 PM and Sunday, Sunday, April 5 at 3:00 PM at the Barnstable Performing Arts Center, 744 West Main Street, Hyannis. Ticket prices range from $30 - $71. For more information or to purchase tickets, visit capesymphony.org or call the Box Office at 508.362.1111.
