Philanthropy Partners of the Cape & Islands Recognized 2017 Distinguished Service in Four Categories
HYANNIS, MA—November 28, 2017
The Vice Chair of the Cape Arts & Entertainment Board of Trustees, Ellen Dickinson, was named Outstanding Volunteer of the year earlier this month at the 21st Annual Philanthropy Day on Cape Cod.
Dickinson joined the board of Cape Arts & Entertainment, home of the Cape Symphony & Conservatory, in 2016 and instantly invested in the organization and its mission by becoming chair of the Development Committee. Within a year, she became the Vice Chair of the Board where her tireless efforts are greatly appreciated.
“Ellen gives of her time and talents above and beyond what most volunteers do, and does it all with a wonderful sense of humor and graciousness. She quietly and determinedly goes about her work on behalf of the organization, and is passionate about our mission to inspire joy through the arts,” said Stephanie Weaver, Executive Director of the Cape Conservatory.
Dickinson’s work on the Development Committee has focused on fundraising for the organization’s educational outreach programs including the nationally recognized Music Works! Everyday education program and Music Memory, in which students from participating schools study 16 pieces of the world’s great music, then compete in a Name That Tune-style contest performed live by the Cape Symphony.
She also helped direct fundraising efforts for the annual Artini Partini, tirelessly approaching local businesses to donate auction items and motivating other board members to do the same in support of Cape Symphony & Conservatory programs.
“Ellen always asks, ‘What can I do to help?’ She cares about the staff as individuals and we are so very happy that she was selected as this year’s outstanding volunteer. She is very deserving of this honor,” said Linda Mawhinney, Chief Operating Officer of Cape Arts & Entertainment.
Dickinson also served as president of the Lower Cape Outreach Council Board of Directors, on the Friends of the Snow Library Board of Directors in Orleans, and as Treasurer of the Namequoit Sailing Association Board of Directors.
