Cape Symphony’s Nth Degree Finishes Season with Warp Trio

Featuring Haydn, Brahms, Ellington

HYANNIS, MA—May 15, 2018

Warp Trio is not your typical piano trio. Comprised of Mikael Darmanie (piano), Ju Young Lee (cello) and Josh Henderson (violin), Warp Trio combines original material, dynamic interpretations of popular music, improvisation and unique takes on classical favorites for a concert experience unlike any other.

The innovative and unique Warp Trio will join Nth Degree Series Director Jae Cosmos Lee to bring chamber music to a new level in the season finale called Time Warp on Sunday, June 10.

Described in Free Times as, “A talented group that exemplifies the genre-obliterating direction of contemporary classical music,” the musicians of Warp Trio are setting new standards for classical music.

Darmanie, an Nth Degree favorite, has performed in the United States, Europe and the Caribbean as a soloist, chamber musician and orchestral conductor. He won First Prize in the North Carolina MTNA Chamber Music Competition (with the Transverse Trio) and made his debut as a conductor with the Carolina Chamber Symphony in 2008.

In Henderson’s multi-faceted career as a cross-genre violinist, violist and composer, he has built a reputation as a high-energy performer of rock, jazz, hip-hop and country-fiddle. He appeared at the 2013 Hip-Hop Inaugural Ball, and has recorded with popular artists including David Byrne, Courtney Love, and The Eagles. He is currently the music director for the Emmy award-winning Damien Escobar (of Nuttin’ But Stringz) and his compositions have premiered at Carnegie Hall and the Alvin Alley Dance Theater.

Korean American cellist Ju Young Lee is a graduate of the Julliard School and enjoys an international career as a chamber musician, soloist and versatile recording artist. He was an orchestral soloist with the Nashville Symphony, Curb Youth Symphony and the New York Symphonic Arts Ensemble. He also performs with Emmy award-winning Damien Escobar.

Time Warp will include Joseph Haydn’s Trio in A major and Brahms Piano Quartet in A Major, where Jae Cosmos Lee will join Warp Trio for an original interpretation with Josh Henderson on Viola.

In addition, Warp Trio will merge popular and classical music for their original “21st Street,” a boundary-busting piece inspired by Bach and Taborn. Two other original pieces by Warp Trio, “Spitroast” and “Tang” are also planned, as well as Duke Ellington’s “Black and Tan Fantasy.”

The Cape Symphony presents Nth Degree in Time Warp on Sunday, June 10 at the Federated Church of Orleans, 162 Main Street, East Orleans beginning at 3:00 p.m.

Nth Degree tickets are $25, general admission. To purchase tickets online visit capesymphony.org or call the Cape Symphony Box Office at 508.362.1111.
