Secret Planet Cape Cod comes to Chapel in the Pines in Eastham on Wednesday, October 14 for a special candlelit evening with internationally acclaimed South African guitarist Derek Gripper.

Derek is one of the world’s most singular guitar voices. Known for translating the dazzling, deeply layered music of the West African kora onto solo classical guitar, he has created a sound that feels both ancient and entirely new. His music draws listeners into a world where South African roots, Malian traditions, classical technique, improvisation, and meditative storytelling meet in one extraordinary performance.

What makes Gripper’s playing so remarkable is not only his technical prowess, but the emotional depth behind it. Through his arrangements of music associated with legendary kora masters including Toumani Diabaté, Gripper opens a doorway between traditions, transforming the six-string guitar into something expansive. Every note feels alive with movement, history, and discovery.

Set inside the warm and intimate Chapel in the Pines, this performance is a fundraiser for WOMR, helping support the station’s mission of presenting local, eclectic, entertaining, informative, and educational programming for Cape Cod and beyond. Your ticket purchase directly supports the kind of independent cultural voice that keeps our community connected, curious, and alive with music.

Secret Planet Cape Cod is a co-production of Cape Symphony Presents and Narrowland Music, bringing extraordinary global artists to our community and celebrating music that connects cultures and ignites new traditions.
