Kristin Howard is a classically-trained Soprano who teaches with a focus on developing her students’ confidence in their unique abilities, while also strengthening the basics of healthy vocal production and musicianship. Lessons pull from the traditional “bel canto” style which focuses on breath, vowels and tone, as well as vocal range and agility. Kristin’s work with students also introduces and reinforces skills like sight reading, performance and audition preparation, along with how to approach various genres, styles, and languages.
Kristin received her Masters of Music in Vocal Performance from Carnegie Mellon University, under the tutelage of operatic legend Maria Specagna. She was also mentored by renowned vocal coach Valéry Ryvkin on many staple opera roles and art song sets. Other highlights of her graduate work include singing Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, Governess in Britten’s The Turn of the Screw, and Violetta selections from La Traviata. Kristin also collaborated with an up-and-coming composer (Marina Lopez) to debut a lead role in the world premiere of her new opera ( Not Our First American ) at Pittsburgh Opera, as part of their Co-Opera program.
She gained her Bachelor’s in Vocal Performance, Cum Laude, from Boston University. While there, Kristin studied under Dr. Lynn Eustis and participated in extensive scene work such as Countess in Le nozze di Figaro, Fiordiligi in Così fan tutte , Sandman in Hansel and Gretel , and First Lady in The Magic Flute . Kristin also nurtured her passions for classical art song and opera, encouraged by both beloved professor Dr. Michelle Alexander, as well as collaborative pianist Brendon Shapiro.
A Cape Cod native, Kristin is thrilled to be back by the sea! She cantors Sundays at Pilgrim Congregational Church in Harwich Port, under music director Dr. Matt Scinto, as well as actively performing as a soloist throughout New England. Kristin also has a very soft spot for cats and will never turn down a cute floof video.
